At two o'clock the auditorium was fuller than it had been that morning.
Word had gone around campus, and people stood three deep along the back wall.
The oldest judge sat at the center of the table with Peyton's binder open in front of her.
The gray-haired man stood at the board with the marker in his hand.
Peyton sat in the first chair of her team's desk, very straight.
"Sir," said the judge.
He gave a thin smile.
"Line nine of your proof assumes the cold store is full in week fourteen. Tell me why that holds."
"It follows from line eight," he said.
"It follows from line eight if demand is positive. Suppose demand in week fourteen is zero. What changes?"
He turned to the board and wrote something.
He crossed it out.
He wrote something else.
