I read it twice in the dark.

Then I got up, went down the hall and turned on Marlee's light.
"Brady's going to the barrel release."
She read the post. She read it again.
"Okay. So we don't go."
"We go."
She pulled the eye mask off. "Jess. He wants a crowd. He wants you standing there while he says it."
"My voice is on every speaker in that rickhouse Saturday," I said. "Ten stops. I recorded them in a hay-bale booth while he was selling my files. I'm not sitting in Louisville while four hundred people hear me and wonder where I am."
She looked at me for a long moment.
"You're going to stand in front of him."
"I'm going to stand where I'd be standing anyway."
Marlee lay back down and stared at the ceiling.
"I'll bring the good cables," she said.
At seven I called Lettie.
"You saw it," she said instead of hello.
"I saw it."
"Forrest wants to stop him at the gate. He's already called the deputies about it. Said he'll stand there himself if he has to."
