Chapter 18: Slow
Mikkel's POV
She laid me on my back in the middle of the loft bed and told me I was not to make a single joke.
"I'll try," I said.
"You won't try. You'll lie there and be looked at," she said.
"That sounds like a punishment," I said.
"Mikkel."
"Yes, ma'am," I said.
She knelt over my hips in the candlelight with her hair down around her shoulders.
She looked at me for a long time.
Anders has looked at me for six years, and I know what it is to be wanted by a man who does not say it.
I had never been looked at that way by a woman.
My throat closed.
I reached for a joke and found nothing in my mouth at all.
"There," Linnea said. "That's the face I wanted."
She bent and kissed me.
It was slow, and she took her time over it.
She kissed my eyelids and the corner of my mouth and the scar by my eyebrow, where I fell off a woodpile at nine.
Anders sat against the pillows on the far side of the bed with his knees drawn up and his hands on them.
He was not touching either of us.
I could feel him anyway, a steady warmth in my ribs, his whole attention turned on us.
"What do you want?" Linnea said against my mouth.
"I want to hold you."
"Then do."
I put my arms around her.
She lay down on top of me, skin to skin.
I felt her breasts against my chest and her thighs on either side of my hips.
I breathed in her hair.
She smelled of woodsmoke and honey, and of Anders, and of me.
"I'm going slow," she said. "Slower than you've ever been. I want to feel all of it."
"I can do slow."
"You can't. You're a talker. Everything about you is quick."
"You'd be surprised," I said.
She slid down my body, kissing as she went.
She kissed my chest and my stomach, and she took her time on the hollow of each hip.
I put my hands in the quilt and held on.
She took me in her mouth very gently.
She did not hurry.
She sucked the head, and let it go.
