Chapter 4: Marco Is Not Sergio

I went to Marco's rooms at dusk the next day, because I had said I would.

He kept the east wing of the manor, and I had not been inside it since I was twelve.

The door stood open.

He was sitting on the end of a big bed with his shirt off, his tattoos running dark across his chest, and Sergio sat in the armchair by the window with a glass of whiskey.

Neither of them smiled.

"I came back," I said.

"You did," Marco said. "Why?"

"Because I want it."

"Want what?"

My face went hot.

"What you said yesterday. To find out how much I can take."

"Good girl," he said, and the words went through me again.

He stood.

"Take your dress off."

I had thought I would be braver than this.

My fingers fumbled with the zipper, and the dress fell around my feet.

I stood there in a plain white bra and the underwear I'd chosen that morning because it was lace.

Marco circled me slowly.

His eyes lingered on the marks Sergio had left across my bottom, now faded to a rosy bruise.

"Still tender?" he asked.

"A little."

"Good." He took my chin. "Because I'm not Sergio."

He sat on the bed and pulled me across his thighs without ceremony.

His lap was harder than Sergio's, all muscle, and his hand was larger.

"I told you I wouldn't ask you to count," he said. "I lied. Count, and when you lose it, we start over."

The first one cracked across both cheeks at once.

I yelped.

"One."

"Louder."

"One!"

He spanked me hard and fast, with none of Sergio's patience, and every blow landed on the spot already hurting.

By the fifth I was crying out with each one.

By the eighth I had lost the number.

"Start over," he said calmly.

"You're a bastard," I gasped.

His hand came down so hard I saw white.

"Is that how you talk to me?"
