Chapter 6: The Long Night

His mouth was rough and certain.

I kissed him back like I'd waited a year for someone to touch me without wanting something.

I fisted both hands in his shirt and pulled him down.

He made a low sound against my lips.

"Emme," he said, and stopped. "You're married."

"To a man who's been trying to kill me."

"You're sick. You've been sick."

"I'm standing up," I said. "I'm furious, and I'm standing up, and I want you to stop talking."

"I'm not."

"You are."

"I'm looking at you like you're the bravest person I've ever met."

He lowered his head and put his mouth on my breast, hot and slow, and I gasped and arched into it.

My fingers went to his belt.

His breath hitched when I got it open.

I wrapped my hand around him, thick and hard and heavy in my palm.

"Christ, Emme."

"Bed," I said. "Now."
