Abram's POV
I told them it was a supplier in Chandler.
It was Monday morning, two days after I wrote my name under rule seven.
Codi had already left for the dentist's office in Gilbert.
Breck was in the shower. Rand was on the phone with a clerk.
I stood in the kitchen with my keys, and the lie came out easily.
"Supplier in Chandler," I said to the empty room.
Then I got in the truck and turned north.
Prescott is an hour and a half up the I-17.
I hadn't driven it in fifteen years.
The last time was my father's funeral.
I had told her at the grave that I meant to start a club with my two best friends.
She had said my father would have been ashamed of it.
I'd said nothing back. I'd gotten in my car.
On Sunday, by my pool, she had said something else.
"There's a way to make the county go away by Friday," she'd told me.
"Come tomorrow. Alone. Don't tell the girl."
"She's twenty-five and proud, and she'll say no, and then you'll both have to live with her no."
I'd said I wouldn't.
