Chapter 15: Asleep Again
I typed the text to Dwight on the hood of Gage's truck with the metal burning my wrists.
I went to the bank this morning and froze everything. I did it because I can't trust myself with money right now.
I'm sorry about the club. I'm sorry about the cameras. I want to come home.
I'll go to Sedona after the forum. I'll sit in the family row. Please.
Gage read it over my shoulder.
"No," he said.
"I need him talking, Gage. He talks to me every night. He talked to my forehead while he robbed me."
"He talked because he thought you were drugged."
"Then he'll think it again."
I sent it.
He answered in four minutes.
Come home, sweetheart. Dinner at seven. I'll make your favorite.
Kipp found out at lunch and lay down flat on Torin's concrete floor.
"I would like it on the record," he said to the ceiling, "that I hate this plan more than the last plan."
"It's on the record."
"There should be a bigger record."
Zane didn't argue.
He just said, "I'll be in the truck on your street from ten until he leaves the house in the morning."
