Chapter 20: The Seal Room
The oldest Elder did not wait for the hall to quiet.
"The charge now stands against Brangwen Waverly of the Seal," he said. "She cannot sit in judgment of her own name."
"Elder..." Brangwen began.
"The Moot sits now, in the Seal Room, at noon. I will have every witness."
She bowed, serene.
"Of course. I have nothing to hide."
By noon the Seal Room was so packed that men stood on the benches.
Haldane's wolf lay across my feet at the edge of the stone floor, and nobody tried to make me kneel.
The hunter came first, in chains, with the guard's hand on his neck.
He did not look at me.
He looked at Sunniva, standing bound in the corner with her hair hanging, and his shoulders came down.
"The lady with the grey gloves paid me at the Greyhollow gate," he said hoarsely. "She gave me an envelope and told me which clinic."
