Chapter 14: The Door
He kicked the tower door shut behind them and did not put her down.
The bolt was on the outside, and the guards were on the other side of the oak.
Iseult could hear them breathing out there, two men on a stone landing.
She was still shaking, and she was furious about it.
"Put me against the door," she said.
Ilarion stopped.
"Iseult."
"Please. I need something to hold me up that isn't my own legs. I need you."
His grey eyes went dark.
He turned and set her back flat against the wood, with her feet off the floor and his body pinning her there.
The panel was cold through her gown, and he was hot all down the front of her.
"They're right behind it," he said, very low.
"I know."
"They'll hear."
"Then I'll be quiet."
She pulled the sash from her waist, a long strip of green silk, and held it up between them.
"Give me something to bite," said Iseult.
He looked at the silk and then at her mouth.
A muscle moved in his scarred jaw.
"Put it in your teeth."
She folded it and set it between her teeth and bit down, and the silk tasted of lavender and her own breath.
"Good," said Ilarion. "Now, not a sound. You make one, and I stop."
She glared at him over the sash.
