Chapter 11: Green Scarf
The lock clicked, and the lamp was already lit.
Aoi stood by her bed in her nightgown, with the green scarf in her hands.
She had carried it around the house all day, wound through her fingers, and had not once let it out of reach.
Caelrin stood in the doorway of the bedroom with his shoulders against the frame.
"You said you would ask me for something," she said.
"I did."
"Ask."
He crossed the room slowly, and stopped in front of her.
"I would like to tie your hands," he said.
Her breath stopped.
"Not hard. Not so you cannot move. Only with this." He touched the end of the scarf. "A single loop and a loose knot. One pull, and it comes free. You may undo it whenever you like."
"And then?"
"And then I would like you to lie still, and let me look after you, until you cannot think."
Heat rolled through her from her scalp to her toes.
"Yes," Aoi said.
"You are certain."
"I've been certain since you tied it on my wrist in the greenhouse."
His mouth curved, small and dangerous.
"Then lie down," Caelrin said.
She lay back on the yellow quilt and he sat on the edge of the bed.
He took both her wrists in one hand and laid them above her head against the iron bed rail.
He wound the scarf around them once, twice, and tied it in a soft bow.
