Chapter 18: The Rug
The tree Tavon brought stood two feet tall on the living room floor.
It had a string of white lights and six glass ornaments from his mama.
By eleven on Christmas Eve it was the only light in the townhouse.
I lay on the rug in front of it on my back, wearing a red ribbon from a package and nothing else.
Darius knelt over my knees in his boxers.
"You wrapped yourself," he said.
"The ribbon was left over."
"It's the best present I ever got," he said.
"You haven't unwrapped it."
He smiled with the gap showing and drew the end of the ribbon slowly through his fingers.
It slid off my stomach and between my breasts and away.
He dropped it on the rug.
I reached for his waistband and pulled his boxers down.
He stood on his knees over me, thick and heavy and already wet at the tip.
I had a thought I had been saving.
"Come up here," I said. "Closer."
"Where?"
"Here."
I pressed my breasts together with both hands and lifted my chin.
He understood a heartbeat later, and his whole body flinched.
"Amber."
"I've never done it. I've wanted to for years. Come here."
He shuffled up the rug on his knees until he straddled my ribs.
I took him in one hand and guided him into the valley I had made, and I squeezed.
The head of him rose out of the top of my cleavage, and I tilted my head and licked it.
"Oh, damn," he said.
He moved.
He slid slowly, carefully, between my breasts, his hands braced on the rug above my head.
I felt the heat of him and the weight and the smooth hard slide.
I held myself around him and watched his face in the glow of the lights.
