Chapter 21: Through the Glasses
Tyler's POV
I stood on my back deck at ten at night with the porch light on and my hands at my sides.
I could not see her.
She was out there somewhere in the dark on the other side of the fence, in the chaise.
I knew because her text had said so: "Light on. Boots off. Stand at the rail."
I had done it all, and now I stood there with my heart going, feeling watched by nobody.
My phone buzzed in my back pocket.
"I can see you," she had written. "Every hair on your chest."
I looked at the black line of the fence, and the black square of her yard.
A small red dot of light winked, high and steady, and I understood.
She had the binoculars up and a penlight in her other hand.
She had turned it on and off to let me know where to look.
"Hi," I said, not loud.
Her voice came across thirty feet of dark, low and clear.
"Take your shirt off."
I pulled it over my head.
The warm night air settled on my bare chest.
"Slowly," she said. "I want to watch it come off."
I did it again, slower, with the porch light on my skin, and I heard her breath catch from across the gap.
"Now your belt."
I opened my belt, and the button, and the zipper.
It was easy to do with my own hands and difficult to do with her eyes on me.
"Down," she said.
I pushed my jeans and boxers to my knees and stood there in the light.
I was hard before they hit the boards.
"Mm," she said, out of the dark. "There you are."
My face burned, and I did not look away from where I thought she was.
