Chapter 15: Take It Back
Jae-ryeong carried Seol back to his rooms.
Seol said he could walk.
Jae-ryeong said he could walk when he had stopped bleeding into the cloth.
Do-yun saw them cross the garden.
He took one look at Jae-ryeong's face and found urgent business in the kitchen.
Jae-ryeong barred the door and lit one lamp.
The hour of the rat came.
He knelt on his father's floor and took the white cup from Seol's hand.
He drank it in three swallows.

"Take your robe off," he said.
Seol had gone still on the edge of the bed.

"I'm so angry I can taste it."
"Good."
That was not what Jae-ryeong had expected.
"Good," Seol said again, and his voice shook. "I'd rather you were angry than gentle. If you're gentle, I'll start to cry."
"Take it off."
Seol stood, and the green robe slid off his shoulders.
He was thin.
Jae-ryeong had not seen how thin.
There were the old scars and the frost lines and the bandage on his arm.
The print of Jae-ryeong's teeth on his shoulder had almost faded.
Jae-ryeong crossed the room in two strides and took him by the hair.
Not hard.
He wound the silver length of it around his fist and tipped Seol's face up to his.
