Vaughn stopped three steps from me and held out his hand for the microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he said, in his best radio voice, "I must ask for your patience."
He didn't need the mic.
The Garden's camera director had found him, and forty feet of Vaughn Pellam's face hung over twenty thousand people, rimless glasses and all.
"This performance is unauthorized," he said. "Miss Kwon is enjoined by a court order from standing on this stage."
One of the lawyers stepped forward and held out the paper to me.
Behind the drums, Dougie Beck rose to his feet.
"Aye, go on," Dougie said. "Tell them how you feel about the plumbing."
A low sound went through the house, close to a growl.
I didn't take the paper.
I turned my head toward the stage-left wing, where Bev stood at a rolling desk with her glasses on her nose.
She didn't look at me.
She looked at her fader.
