Chapter 12: The Letter From Home

Morning came in gold through the shutters, and neither of them wanted it.

Mai woke with Hinata's hair across her face and Hinata's knee between her thighs.

She had a faint ache in every place that had been loved the night before.

The proclamation lay on the floor where she had dropped it.

She did not look at it.

"Mm," Hinata said into her shoulder. "Are you awake?"

"Barely."

"Good. Stay that way."

Hinata pushed herself up on one elbow and smiled down at her, sleepy and tousled, with a crease from the pillow across her cheek.

"I'm going to refuse him in public," she said. "Leon will help. I'll tell the whole court I'm not for any prince."

"Vernier will fight."

"Then he fights." Hinata kissed her. "But not before breakfast."

Her kiss turned slow, and warm, and then not slow at all.

Mai rolled her onto her back and kissed her throat, and Hinata laughed, low and delighted, and wound a leg around her hip.

Hinata's hands slid under Mai's night shirt and pushed it up over her head.

"Skin," Hinata said. "I want all of it."

She turned them, and pinned Mai's wrists to the pillow, gently, and kissed her way down her chest.

She took a nipple between her teeth and bit, so lightly that it sent a bright line of heat down Mai's body.

"Ah! Hinata."

"Onee-san likes that."

"Stop calling me that."

"Say please stop, then."

Mai bit her lip and said nothing at all, and Hinata grinned against her breast.

Hinata's hand moved down, and cupped her through her underwear, and rubbed, slowly, with the heel of her palm.

"Wet again. Already."

"It's your fault."

"I'm not sorry."

Mai lifted her hips, shameless, and Hinata pulled her underwear down and off and threw it across the room.

"I have an idea," Hinata whispered.

"Is it a dirty idea?"

"It's a very dirty idea. I want us to do it at the same time."

She tugged at Mai's shoulder and guided her around.

Mai ended up on her hands and knees above her, facing the other way, with her thighs on either side of Hinata's head.
