Chapter 20: The Claiming Night

We did not make it to the bed.

The lodge door shut behind us, and Niko had me against it with his mouth on mine before the latch finished clicking.

"All of it," he said into my mouth. "You said all of it."

"I did."

"Then I'm going to learn every inch of you first. Slowly. With my hands."

He carried me to the rug in front of the fire.

It was a thick grey wolf pelt his father had left him.

He set me down on my knees on it.

He knelt behind me.

His hands came around my waist and found the hem of my sweater.

He drew it up over my head slowly, a hand's width at a time.

"Ribs," he said, and his palms spread across them.

"Your skin's cold from the yard, and your heart's running."

"It's running because of you."

"I know."

He unhooked my bra with one hand, and his palms cupped my breasts, weighing them, thumbing the nipples until they drew tight.

"Soft," he said. "Heavy. I could hold these for the rest of my life."

I leaned my head back on his shoulder.

His mouth found the mate mark on my left shoulder, and he licked it.

I shuddered all the way down.

"It hums," I said.

"Good."

He turned me to face him and laid me back on the pelt.

The fire threw gold across his shoulders as he stripped off my jeans and my underwear.
