Miles took my hand and led me onto the dance floor.
I stood close enough that he wouldn't have to guess.
He put his palm against my back and smiled down at me.
"Ordinary dancing?" he asked.
"I'd rather enjoy myself than impress anybody," I told him.
He moved with the music and brought me along gently.
Across the room, Pippa was laughing with her new husband.
I could see Celia eating her supper beside Gregory.
Nobody was watching to make sure I made this work.
I put my cheek against Miles's shoulder.
"You look pleased," he said when I lifted my head.
"I am," I told him.
I didn't add an explanation about the wedding or my sister.
He kissed my temple and kept moving with me.
Then the fine fringe of my wrap caught on his cuff.
