Chapter 9: The Shower
Page fifty-two was the shower.
The captain comes off the night shift stinking of diesel, and the widow follows him into the water in her dress.
Tae-oh's bathroom was bigger than Ye-won's entire flat.
It had a rain showerhead and a black stone floor.
A full wall of glass fogged as soon as the water ran hot.
She had asked him the question first, on the sofa, with the script closed.
"Jang says you sit on the stairs at night."
"Habit."
"Since when?"
"Since I started sleeping badly." He kept his eyes on the carpet. "Stairwells are quiet. Nobody films a stairwell."
That was all he gave her.
She let it go, because he looked so tired, and because she had a better idea.
"Strip," she said now. "Get in."
He stepped into the spray naked.
She came after him in her slip and stood under the water until the thin silk went transparent.
He stared at her as if he couldn't believe she was real.
"The widow doesn't take her dress off," Ye-won said. "She just walks in."
"The scene has no dialogue."
"Then we do it without any."
She put her palms on his chest and walked him backward until his shoulder blades touched the cold stone.
The water poured down over both of them, hot as a bath.
