Chapter 24: One Heated Floor
The warden had finally fixed the boiler.
Tae-gang found out when he laid his palm on the floor of Room Seven.
The heat ran all the way across, from the fire mouth in the corner to the door.
There was no cold half anymore.
"Now we have no excuse to stay on one half," Seo-hwan said behind him.
Tae-gang turned.
Seo-hwan stood with his back against the closed door, with the bolt shot, and the lamp turned low on the desk.
His spectacles were gone, and his hair was down.
He had already opened his robe, and he was looking at Tae-gang with his dark eyes half lidded.
"Take it off," he said. "All of it. Nothing hidden."
Tae-gang's hands went to his belt.
He had no band to unwind this time, no bandage to check, no name to remember.
He dropped the robe, and the grey trousers, and stood bare in the lamplight.
The black tiger lay gold-eyed on his chest, with the red ring of Seo-hwan's bite over it.
Seo-hwan let his own robe slide to the floor.
The silver crane shone from his ribs to his knee, and on the hip it wore Tae-gang's teeth.
They looked at each other.
"We're both twenty-two," Seo-hwan said softly. "We're both the wrong way round. And I've never wanted anything as much as I want you."
"Come here."
They met in the middle of the floor.
The kiss was long, deep, and unhurried, and it went on until their breathing roughened.
Tae-gang's cold hands slid down Seo-hwan's back and cupped him, and Seo-hwan pushed up against him, hard and hot against his belly.
"Lie down," Seo-hwan said. "On your stomach."
Tae-gang's heart jumped.
"Like this?"
He stretched out on the warm boards, face turned to the side, arms folded under his cheek.
The floor was like a hand under his chest, hot and steady.
Seo-hwan knelt over his thighs.
He was warm all down Tae-gang's back.
When he leaned down, his hair fell across Tae-gang's shoulders.
"You're so big," he murmured, "and you let me do this."
