Chapter 15: Eyes Open
Fang shut the penthouse door with his heel and put Lu against it.
"I'm not forgiving you," he said.
"I understand."
"I'm going to fuck you. That's different."
"I understand that too," said Lu.
His lip was scabbed and his shirt was creased.
His dark eyes were fixed on Fang's face.
Fang took him by the wrist and walked him down the hall.
He did not stop at the bedroom.
He went straight through into the living room, where the glass wall opened on the grey river.
He pulled the cushions off the sofa and threw them on the floor.
"Sit."
Lu sat on the heap of cushions in front of the window.
He looked up, calm, and patient, and very tired.
"You haven't slept," said Fang.
"No."
"Take off your shirt."
Lu did.
He undid each button with slow fingers and laid the shirt aside.
Fang knelt in front of him and put both palms on the long bare chest.
"You're freezing," Fang said.
"I was on a step."
"You were an idiot on a step."
"Yes," said Lu.
Fang bent and kissed him on the mouth.
It was gentler than the last one. It still tasted of blood.
Lu made a small sound and his hands came up and rested on Fang's shoulders, not holding, only there.
