Chapter 13: The Offer
I did not get in the car.
I opened the rear door, sat sideways on the leather with both boots on the wet pavement, and left the door wide.
Behind me, the terminal gate had cameras, and Carter's men were watching every one of them.
Giorgio smiled at that.
"Good girl," he said.
"Careful."
"Your brother was careful too."
"Don't talk about my brother."
"Why not?"
"I know more about his last hour than you do."
The driver looked straight ahead.
Rain ticked on the roof.
The heater breathed warm air onto my knees, and I hated how good it felt.
He poured himself nothing, offered me nothing, and waited.
"Carter told you Wyatt begged," Giorgio said.
"He told me everything."
"He told you what lets him sleep."
He folded his hands over the signet ring.
