Chapter 16: Roland's Bargain
"Sit on the stool," Hammer told him. "By the door. Drip on the mat."
Roland Price sat on the stool by the door and dripped on the mat.
He looked smaller on a stool, and older, with rain running off his chin.
Six women stood in robes along the hallway, and nobody offered him a towel.
"What do you want?" I said.
"I'm here to make a deal."
"I don't make them."
"Everything's a deal, son."
"Don't call me that."
He took a breath and nodded.
"There's a banker's box on the porch under my coat," he said. "Two years of Lakeside's ledgers, the lease, the contractor invoices."
"Carolyn doesn't know I took them. She keeps them in the boathouse office."
Spook was already out the door.
"Here's the deal," Roland said. "You take Price Supply and fold it into that company of yours."
