Chapter 8: I Was Awake

Wyatt stared at me.

"What?"

"I was awake," I said. "Friday night, from the second the door locked. And all of Saturday night."

He went white and then red.

"You were..."

"I heard you in Dylan's room before any of it. I knew you were coming. I knew who touched me, and what you said."

"You let us."

"I let you."

His hands left my arms and hung in the air, afraid to land anywhere.

"Why didn't you say anything?"

"Because I wanted it."

I watched the words go into him.

"I wanted every bit of it, Wyatt. I'm sorry about the note. I'm not sorry about the rest."

His chest heaved.

"I thought I'd..." He couldn't finish. "I've been sick for three days."

"I know. You're the only one who was."

"I thought you'd hate me."

"Then look at me."

He did, finally.

His eyes were wet and dark and absolutely open, and under my thighs I could feel exactly how much he wanted me.

I shifted against him, once, slow.

His whole body jerked.

"Kenna."

"Here are the rules," I said.

He nearly laughed.

"Rules?"

"One. Nobody touches me unless I say so, out loud, while I'm awake. Two. Nobody tells Dylan yet. I'll tell him myself. Three. No phones in my room. Nothing gets recorded, nothing gets sent."

"Okay." It came out in a rush. "Okay. Yes. All of it."

"And you don't apologize again."

"Okay."

"Say it."

"I won't apologize." He swallowed. "Kenna, can I..."

"What do you want?"

His voice dropped.

"Your mouth," he said. "Again. Please."
