The photographer lowered her camera.
"Oh God," she said. "I'm so sorry. I'll delete those."
"Don't," I said. "Keep them. Date them."
I opened the envelope standing on the sidewalk.
Kiera Lynch versus Maura Costigan. Suffolk Superior Court.
Count one, fraud. Count two, conversion of personal property, one yellow Labrador retriever.
The complaint said I'd billed Kiera fifteen hundred dollars a month for three years for training I never gave.
Fifty-four thousand dollars, plus damages, plus the dog.
Niall read it over my shoulder, his jaw going harder with every line.
"She's suing you for the money she took," he said.
"In my name."
"In your name, with her receipts."
Kerry snatched the pages, read the first one, and said something that made the photographer laugh out loud and then apologize.
"I'll call our lawyer," Niall said.
