"I packed her winter things," Jude's mother said.
"I did not know where else she would be."
She stood on the porch with her chin high and one hand locked around her purse strap.
She looked ten years older than she had at her own table.
"Danielle texted me at midnight," she added.
"She said she was on Linden Street and that she hadn't been thrown out."
"She hasn't," I said.
"Please come in."
She came into the hall and stopped at the fridge.
Cam's rule was still taped to the door, in his marker, in his square print.
NOBODY HURTS MY SISTER.
She read it, and her mouth went thin.
Her eyes moved to the end of the hall, where Danielle stood in a borrowed T-shirt holding her mug in both hands.
"Mom," Danielle said.
"I watched the video," her mother said.
"The game."
"Your friend's mother sent it to mine at ten o'clock last night, and I watched it four times."
