Chapter 14: Clean

Cece's POV

Teo drove us back to the loft with his wrapped hand on the wheel, and neither of us said a word on the Eisenhower.

The sky over the river was going gray when he unlocked the door.

I stood in the middle of his kitchen in my sister's jacket and said it before I lost my nerve.

"At the gala we made a rule. When the baby is born, we walk away clean."

"I remember."

"He was born yesterday."

Teo put his keys on the counter very carefully.

"I'm not walking away clean, Cece."

"You're angry. Anger wears off."

"It doesn't."

"Tomorrow you'll have what you want from Leandro, and I'll be the woman who was useful."

His eyes came up, and they were not calm.

"Is that what you think you are to me?"

"I think you needed someone Leandro would feel losing."

"I walked into a diner at midnight because you looked like you were holding up the whole room by yourself."

He crossed the kitchen in three steps and stopped an inch from me.

"I have wanted my hands on you since you bled on a napkin and didn't notice."

My pulse was in my throat.

"Then say the rest," I said. "Nothing's in your way. Say it out loud."

"I want you on that table with your legs over my shoulders and my mouth on you until you forget your own name."

"Your hand is hurt."

"I have a mouth."

I laughed, and it came out shaky, and then I pulled him down by the front of his shirt and kissed him.

He kissed me back slowly, and my knees nearly went.

"You said nobody touches until the debt is named," I murmured against his lips.
