"Reborn," Mom said. "In makeup. At his age."

"He's fifty-two," Augustin said from the stove.

"He looked fifty-two for one night. He's going to hate every morning for the rest of his life."

I scrolled down.

The comments were refund requests, and none of them had a sunrise.

But under the post he'd written a long caption.

Last night a disturbed young woman released a chemical into a crowd of eighteen thousand people. What you saw was mass hysteria. I forgive her. I will tell you the truth today.

"He's going to say I poisoned them," I said.

"Yes," Ivo said. "He is."

I put the phone down and picked up mine.

The press conference was in a hotel ballroom in Hartford, a mile from the arena where it started.

Zane had set up a podium and a sunrise backdrop and a table of free gratitude journals by the door.
