Chapter 21: The Night Before

We did not close the curtains.

Snow was falling over the back field.

And the light off it came through the glass of my room and laid a silver square across the brass bed.

I lay in the middle of it on my back with my hair spread over the pillow.

Declan knelt at my left with his hand flat on my sternum.

Rhett knelt at my right with his palm on my thigh.

Neither of them had said a word for a full minute.

Tomorrow, at ten, a hall full of the valley would sit down on benches and decide what we were.

Tonight there was only this.

"I said I owed you a word," I said.

"You did," said Declan.

"I'm going to say it after. I want it to be the last thing."

Rhett's mouth twitched.

"Teacher's pet gets the finale," he said softly.

"Teacher's pets both get the finale."

I put one hand on each of their faces and drew them down to kiss me.

Declan first, slow and thorough, with a quiet sound deep in his chest.

Then Rhett, soft and sweet, his beard brushing my chin.

Then both of them at once, a clumsy, tender triangle of mouths, laughter caught between teeth.

And it was the most natural thing I'd ever done.

"I want you to take your time," I said against Rhett's lip.

"How long?"

"All night."

"Is that an order?"

"It's the last lesson."

They bent over me.

Declan's mouth went to my left breast and Rhett's to my right.

And they sucked softly, in unison, their tongues circling, and I arched into it and sighed.

They knew me.

They knew the exact pressure that made me whimper, and the soft scrape of teeth, and the slow wet drag between.

I put my hands in their hair.

Declan's was short and rough, Rhett's long and loose.

And I held them there and let the feeling roll down my body in long sweet tides.

"Lower," I murmured. "Both of you. Lower."

They kissed down my ribs.

They kissed my belly, one on each side, and I felt the way they lingered over the soft swell of it.

Rhett whispered, "I love this."

Declan, very low, said, "So do I."

Then they were between my thighs, shoulder to shoulder.

Two mouths.

I had never had it before and the thought alone made me wet.

Declan licked in a long stroke, and Rhett followed.

And then they found a rhythm, one at my clit and one at my entrance, trading, tongues sliding together.

I cried out.

My hands fisted in the sheets.

"There," I gasped. "Yes. Like that. You are so good, both of you, oh, you're so good."

They answered with low hums.

They went slower, if anything, savoring, and I watched the two dark heads between my pale thighs and felt something enormous swell in my chest.

Rhett slid a finger in.

Declan sucked my clit, a steady firm pull, and I came with a long soft shout that dissolved into laughter, because I was so happy.

"Again," Declan said against my clit. "I want to feel it twice."
