Chapter 15: Her Hips
He started at my ankles, as he had promised.
I lay on my back across his bed with a pillow under my head, naked, with every lamp in the room switched on.
I had set that rule myself.
"If you're going to look, look properly," I had said.
He knelt at the foot of the mattress and took my right foot in both hands.
He turned it, and kissed the arch, and then the knob of the ankle bone, and then the soft hollow behind it.
"Your feet are cold," he said.
"Warm them."
He put my heel against his chest, under his shirt, against his skin.
He was a furnace.
I wriggled my toes against his ribs, and he laughed, and bit the ball of my foot gently.
Then he went on up.
He kissed the inside of my calf, a slow line, with his beard tickling.
He kissed the back of my knee, and I jumped, and he did it again.
"Ticklish."
"Not there."
"Liar."
He pushed my knees apart, one palm on each, and looked at my thighs.
They were wide and heavy and pale, with the dimples above them and the faint blue vein on the left that I had always hated.
He looked at them.
"Do you know what I thought when you walked into the ballroom?" he said.
"That I was lost."
"I thought, that is the most beautiful pair of legs I have ever seen.
I thought I would like to get my face between them in front of the entire pack."
My breath left me.
"Griffin."
"I'm not done."
He lay down on his stomach between my knees and set his mouth on my inner thigh.
He kissed it, high up, where the skin was softest, and dragged his tongue along the crease.
I felt his hands slide under my backside and lift me an inch, and his thumbs press into the flesh, kneading, spreading.
