Chapter 13: Eleven Weeks
Seung-ho set the two paper cups on the floor, very slowly.
He did not say "let me explain."
He walked past Ha-jun to the desk, opened the bottom drawer, and took out a folded sheet of heavy cream paper.
He held it out.
"Read it," he said.
Ha-jun took it.
The paper had an embossed letterhead that said AURORA ENTERTAINMENT, and a date from twelve weeks ago.
Under it, in numbered lines, someone had typed out a job.
Moon Seung-ho would be placed at Starline Entertainment as manager to Lim Ha-jun of ARCLIGHT.
His task was to obtain photographs showing Lim Ha-jun in a relationship, for use under clause fourteen.
On delivery, Moon Seung-ho would be appointed Director of Artist Care at Aurora.
At the bottom was a red seal, and a signature that ran across it in blue ink: Choi Dae-sik.
Under the seal, Seung-ho had signed his own name, in the same neat hand that wrote Ha-jun's schedules.
Ha-jun read it twice.
His hands were quite steady, which surprised him.
"Three times they refused you that seat," he said, because the last line of the page said so.
"Yes."
"And this is the price."
"It was the price."
Ha-jun looked up.
Seung-ho stood by the desk in his gray T-shirt, with his arms at his sides and nothing in his face to hide behind.
"I wrote down what he asked," Seung-ho said. "I didn't write down what I did. Take the black phone. Read every message in it."
Ha-jun picked up the phone from the desk, because he was allowed to now.
