Sigrid's POV
The Lodge filled by seven on Thursday night, because Odile had sent the call to every wolf on the ridge.
Nobody asked what it was about.
They came anyway, in coats, with snow on their boots, and sat down on the same benches where they had watched me get cut loose.
Leighton took the Alpha's chair on the dais.
He sat with his back straight and the silver at his throat, and he looked at the room and said nothing.
Casimir stood at my left in his flannel shirt, with the collar bare where the bar used to be.
His hand rested at the small of my back.
It was a quiet touch, and I leaned into it on purpose.
Odile stood at the council table, in her green dress, with no pin.
"The council chair has agreed to hear a letter," she said, and her voice carried to the back wall.
"Sigrid Ashgrove will read it."
"This is a disgrace," Leighton said.
"The council reads nothing in front of the pack outside a Gathering."
"This isn't a Gathering," the chair said, from his stool. "It's a hearing. Sit down, Leighton."
Leighton did not sit down, because he was already sitting.
