Chapter 20: One Star

Carys's POV

There were four hundred and twelve one-star reviews by the time I walked into work on Wednesday.

Every one of them was about me.

Carys Farnsworth took my deposit and vanished. Carys Farnsworth billed me for a trip I never took. Do not hire this woman. She is a thief.

The company's review page had gone from four point eight to one point one overnight.

My boss was standing at my desk when I got there, holding her tea.

"Clients have started calling," she said. "Two already."

"They're fake."

"I believe you. They won't, unless you show them."

I sat down and put my face in my hands, just for a moment.

Then I opened the reviews and started reading names.

A first name, an initial, a city, a smiling stock photo.

I knew them.

Not the faces. The names.

I opened the spreadsheet of refund requests for Joss's guide, the one someone had shared in the thread on Monday, and I put the two lists side by side.

The first reviewer was on it. So was the second, and the third.

Every reviewer was a person who had bought "Lisbon in Three Days."

The full buyer list sat in Joss's store, and nobody else could see all of it.

"Megan," I said, on the phone, in the stairwell. "She used her customers' names."

"All of them?"

"I'm checking. So far it's every one."

"Call them."

I called the first reviewer on the list.

She answered on the third ring, in a car.

"Hi," I said. "My name is Carys Farnsworth. I'm the woman from the video."

"Oh my God," she said. "I watched it four times. I'm so sorry about the way she did you."
