Chapter 23: After

He didn't speak all the way home.

We rode the bus back to Fenn Street, with Tanya's coat over my shoulders and Abram's hand locked around mine.

At the top of the iron stairs, he unlocked the door to his apartment, pulled me inside, and shut it with his back.

Then he put me against it.

The wood was cool through the velvet.

His hands closed around my wrists and pinned them above my head.

He looked into my face from an inch away.

"I told you in the shop," Abram said, low and rough. "I wouldn't be gentle."

"You did."

"Say you want it."

"I want it." My voice was breathless. "Abram, I want all of it."

He kissed me.

It wasn't the kiss from the boutique.

It was hungry, and hard, and his teeth caught my lip, and I felt his whole body shaking against mine.

He found the zipper at my back one-handed and dragged it down.

The velvet dropped off my shoulders and slid to the floor around my feet, and he stepped back to look at me.

I stood against his door in my underwear and the black collar with the silver ring.

For once I didn't think about what I looked like.

"There you are," he said, so quietly I barely heard him.

He lifted me.

He had once said he could carry me, and he proved it now.

He held me with one arm under my thighs and pressed me flat to the wood with the weight of his body.

I wrapped my legs around his waist.

He pushed my underwear aside and he was inside me in one long stroke, and I cried out.

"Quiet," he said, against my ear. "The whole building will hear."

"Let them."

"Joss."

"I don't care. Let them hear."
