A bus went by on Broad Street and shook the step under us.
I looked down at the roses in my lap.
"Yes," I said.
He didn't move.
I don't think he breathed.
"On my terms," I said.
"Tell me."
I held up one finger.
"The shop is mine. My name on the door and on the license. I'm Giada Pisano. I don't change it."
"Done."
"You're not even going to argue?"
"I'll change mine if you want," he said. "Mauro Pisano."
I laughed so hard a cab slowed down to look.
"Keep yours. Two."
I held up another finger.
"We live upstairs. In the apartment. Not in Packer Park."
"I'll sell the house."
"You love that house."
"I've never laughed in that house once," he said. "You said so. You were right."
"Give the housekeeper a good reference."
"I'll give her the gravy boat."
"Three. I wear my mother's gown. And I let the hem down. All six inches."
He went quiet.
"There's no fabric left to let down," he said. "They cut it."
