Chapter 16: Her Door, Her Lock

Conrad's POV

Her mouth tasted of tea and salt.

I stood in the middle of my own hall, with half my elders still in the corridor, and Linnea Hartwell had her hands in my hair and her tongue in my mouth.

My wolf went quiet for the first time in three years.

I broke the kiss and put my forehead against hers.

"Not here."

"Then where?"

"Your room. Your door. Your lock."

She looked at me for one long moment.

Then she took my hand and walked me up the stairs.

She did not let go until we were inside.

She shut the door behind us, and she turned the key in the lock.

She put the key into my palm.

"So you know," she said, "I can't be locked in. Not by anyone."

"I know."

"Good."

She pulled her sweater over her head.

I had seen her in the cabin, lit by one lantern, half dead with fear for me.

I had not seen her like this, in daylight, standing on her own feet and choosing.

She was long and strong, with a runner's thighs and a flat belly, and a scar on her hip that I wanted to put my mouth on.

She unhooked her bra and let it drop.

"You're staring," she said.

"I'm going to stare for a long time."

"Then do something while you do it."

I went to her.

I put my hands on her ribs and slid them up, and cupped her breasts, and ran my thumbs over her nipples until they went hard.

She sucked in a breath.

I bent and took one in my mouth, slow, with my tongue flat against it.

Her fingers tightened in my hair.

"Conrad."

"Say it again."

"Conrad. Please."

I walked her backward to the bed, and she sat, and I knelt on the floor in front of her.

I opened her jeans.

She lifted her hips, and I peeled the jeans and her underwear down her legs and dropped them behind me.

She was wet already.

I could smell her, sweet and dark, and my wolf pushed up under my skin.

I held it down.

I put my hands on the insides of her knees and spread her open.
