I stayed where I was.
My hand was still on his chest.
He had not moved since I told him to take off his shirt.
The room felt smaller than it had a minute ago.
I watched him reach for the top button.
His fingers worked without hurry, and each button gave the same way, and I kept my eyes on his hands because looking anywhere else felt like losing something.
He pulled the shirt free and dropped it.
His skin was warm under my palm.
I felt his breath move through him.
'You are still dressed,' he said.
I looked down at my blouse.
The buttons were still fastened.
I started at the top.
He watched my hands.
Neither of us spoke while I worked.
The fabric parted.
I let it fall from my shoulders.
My bra was still on.
He reached behind me and unhooked it with one hand.
It slid down my arms.
The air touched my skin.
He put his hands on my waist.
His thumbs moved once.
I stepped out of my skirt.
My underwear followed.
He kept his trousers on.
I reached for his belt.
He let me.
The buckle opened.
The zip came down.
He pushed his trousers down and stepped out of them.
We stood there without touching for a moment.
