Chak fainted at hour eleven.
He did not fall far.
Mee caught him under the arms in the corridor of the private hospital in Nonthaburi.
He lowered him onto a plastic chair with great tenderness, and Phat knelt in front of him and slapped his cheek.
"Breathe."
"I'm breathing," Chak said.
"You're green. Put your head between your knees."
"I'm the head of the Lertsiri family."
"I'm the owner of the Lertsiri family," Phat said, "and you're putting your head between your knees."
Chak put his head between his knees.
From the delivery room came a long, furious string of Thai that Phat had never heard his sister use before.
Mee winced and pressed his palms together toward the ceiling.
Fah, who had arrived at hour six with a cooler, sat cross-legged on the floor with the dog's head in her lap.
The dog had been smuggled in under Mee's jacket and had decided that was acceptable.
"She's doing great," Fah said. "I read a paper."
"You read a paper on childbirth?"
