Chapter 11: The Export
I looked down at the note.
My future daughter-in-law.
My old caterer boss watched my face over the top of her glasses.
"You know this woman."
"I baked for her every Sunday for two years."
"Ah." She took the folder back and tucked it under her arm. "That's a no, then."
"It's a yes."
Ren looked at me.
My old caterer boss raised her eyebrows.
"Addie. Are you going to poison four hundred donors?"
"No, Chef. I'm going to make the best osmanthus cake they've ever eaten."
"And?"
"And I'd like to be on the floor when it's served. Not in the back."
She thought about it for a long time.
"My name's on that contract," she said. "Don't make me regret it."
"You won't."
"Don't put your name on the menu cards, either. Client didn't ask who the pastry chef was. Let's keep it that way." She pointed her umbrella at Ren. "And you. Wash your hands. There's bean paste on your collar."
