I woke to the smell of coffee and fried eggs.
Sun lay in a square across the quilt, and the stove ticked, and my body ached in a dozen places that made me smile into the pillow.
Ansel stood at the stove in his sweatpants with a spatula.
He had a long red scratch down his back, and I looked at it for a while before I spoke.
"I did that."
"You did," he said.
"Does it hurt?"
"Only when I think about it," he said, and the corner of his mouth lifted. "Which is constantly."
I laughed and sat up, dragging the quilt with me.
My jeans were on the floor, and my bra was on the lamp.
I found his white work shirt on the chair, and pulled it on, and rolled the sleeves.
He turned around and went still.
"What?" I said.
"Nothing. I'm memorizing."
"Memorizing what?" I said.
"You in my shirt."
