Chapter 11: Keep the Latte
The man in the pressed suit stepped into the room, and Todd came in one step behind him, in a clean white shirt.
He looked like a hostage in a video.
"Sir," the man said to the owner, "I'm the regional manager at Delmar Turf and Irrigation. We've been a proud partner of this club for eleven years."
"I know who you are," said the owner. "You've got the sign in left-center."
"Yes, sir. We're here on behalf of an employee whose privacy was violated by a member of your staff." He gestured at Todd without looking at him. "We'd ask that the footage be removed, and that the individual responsible be disciplined."
"The individual," said the owner.
Every head in the room turned toward Dani.
She sat up straighter and didn't say a word.
Todd stared at the table.
"Let me ask you something," the owner said pleasantly. He unwrapped a peppermint. "What section was your employee sitting in?"
"112, I believe."
"Which seats are those?"
"Ours. The client block."
"What was he wearing?"
The regional manager frowned.
"A company polo."
"With your logo."
"Yes, but..."
"At my park, in the seats you pay me for, with a woman from my ticket office." The owner put the peppermint in his mouth. "And you'd like me to call that a privacy problem."
The regional manager turned his head slowly.
"Todd," he said. "You told me you were in Kansas City."
"I came back early."
"You told me the woman in that clip was a stranger. A random fan."
Todd said nothing.
"Bring in Ms. Egan," the owner said to the HR woman, who was already writing.
