Chapter 9: Stay for Yourself

Cosima's POV

Stefano came to my door after dark with his shirt half buttoned.

"The doctor stopped talking," he said. "He said your name three times and then he was sick on my aunt's floor."

"Where is he?"

"In the cellar, with two men and a blanket. He says the rest goes to the Commission and nobody else."

"What did he mean, it was always about me?"

"I don't know."

I sat on the edge of the bed in his aunt's old nightgown.

"Everyone keeps telling me something about me that I'm not allowed to know," I said. "Rocco, Fabiola, a doctor on his knees. I am so tired of it."

He crossed the room and knelt on the rug in front of me.

"Then don't think about it tonight."

"How?"

"Let me show you."

He put his hands on my knees and looked up.

I touched his face, over the scar in his eyebrow, and he turned his mouth into my palm.

I pulled him up by the collar, and this time he did not ask me anything.

He kissed me down onto the bed, and the nightgown went over my head in one move.

His mouth went along my collarbone and over my breasts and down across my stomach.

He stopped between my thighs, and his hands pushed my legs apart.

"Stefano."

"Let me."

He put his mouth on my pussy.

His tongue slid slowly over my clit, and my hips came off the mattress.

I had never had a man do this.

Rocco had called it unclean.

"Oh, fuck," I said.

Stefano groaned against me, and the sound went through my whole body.

He licked me with long, hungry strokes, then sucked my clit between his lips and flicked it with his tongue.

I fisted both hands in his hair.

"Don't stop. Don't you dare stop."

He pushed two fingers inside me and curled them against the place that made me see white.
