Chapter 8: Craig Tells the Truth

"I didn't touch her," I said.

Nobody heard me.

The she-wolf with the diamonds dropped to her knees beside Genevieve. "Someone get the healer! Get her Alpha!"

A man ran back toward the terrace shouting.

Genevieve clutched my borrowed coat.

"Why?" she wept. "I came out here to make peace with you."

The guests stared at me.

At my silver hair. At the kitchen girl who bit a Beta.

I could see them deciding.

Tristan came down the path at a run, Craig and two warriors behind him.

He saw Genevieve on the ground and went white.

"What did you do?"

"Nothing. She threw herself down."

"She's lying!" Genevieve sobbed. "She grabbed my wrist! Everybody saw her hand on me."

Tristan knelt and gathered her up.

Then he looked at me over her head, and his eyes were black.

"If my child is dead," he said, "I'll have you executed under Moon Law. Prince or no prince."

"What's happening?"

Kieran came through the hedge in his shirtsleeves.

The healer was one step behind him, bag in hand, and the King behind her in a dressing gown.

The crowd split for them.

Tristan pointed at me. "Your ward attacked my pregnant Luna."

"Did she?" Kieran looked at me.

"No."

He nodded once, like that settled it.

It didn't settle it for the crowd.

"I saw her hand on the girl's arm," the she-wolf with the diamonds said. "With my own eyes."
