Chapter 7: Hot Water

The water in the flat took four minutes to run hot, and we spent them kissing against the bathroom door.

It was Saturday, a little past one in the morning.

The tavern was shut, the stairs were dark, and the only light was the yellow bulb over the mirror.

Karl had his hands in my wet braid and my back against the wood.

He kissed me slowly, taking his time.

"You came in here," he said against my mouth.

"I came for the shower."

"There's one shower," he said.

"So I noticed."

His hands slid under my shirt and spread over my ribs.

I pushed his shirt up and off over his head and bit his shoulder.

He caught me under the thighs and lifted me against the door, and I locked my legs around his waist.

I felt him through his jeans, hard against the thin cotton between my legs.

I ground down on it, slowly, and he groaned into my mouth.

"Water's getting hot," he said, not moving.

"Let it."

"Wrobel," he said.

"Let it get hot. I'm busy."

He carried me two steps and set me on the sink, and kissed my throat until I was panting.

Then he let me down, because the pipes were knocking, and he reached past me and turned the tap.

Steam began to curl over the curtain rod.

I peeled my shirt over my head, and he watched.

I pushed my pants down, and he watched that too.

I kicked them into the corner and stood in front of him in my bare skin on the cold tile.

"Get in," I said.

"You first."

"I said get in, Hartmann."

He stripped in two jerks and stepped over the edge of the tub.

I stepped in after him, and the water hit us both.

It ran hot down his chest and shoulders and plastered his dark hair to his forehead.

When I pressed against him I felt every wet inch of him.

I put my hands on his chest and ran them down over the scar on his ribs.

"Tell me about this one."

"Keg. I was seventeen," he said.

"Dumb."

"Extremely," he agreed.

I kissed it.
