Desmond sat on the edge of the bed with his bare back to me.
"Show me," he said.
Ford crossed the carpet and held out his phone in both hands.
I pulled the sheet up and leaned over Desmond's shoulder to read.
The thread had one contact, saved as "Bianca Thorsby, H&P."
There was a single gray bubble, and above it a time stamp.
"Sun, Oct 11, 12:58 AM."
"Ms. Thorsby is up in 2210."
That was all of it.
Nobody spoke for a while.
"It came from her number," Ford said. "The same number I called on Sunday morning."
"You got this at 12:58 and you sat on it for two weeks," Desmond said.
"Yes, sir."
"Why?"
Ford's throat moved.
"Because I took it for a receipt," he said. "She writes like a press release."
