Chapter 6: Keys to Everything

Silvio found him in the study with the fire down to embers.

Vittorio stood at the window with a glass in his hand, and he did not turn when the door slammed.

"You left me hanging at the table," Silvio said.

"I did."

"In front of ten men."

"Nobody saw." Vittorio turned. "Nobody but me."

"What four million?"

"Close the door."

"I want the books."

Vittorio set down the glass.

"The Sartori books, the Rizzo accounts, the Ferrante dock ledgers I've had copied," he said.

"Everything is in that cabinet and the safe behind the painting. The code is your birthday."

Silvio stared at him.

"You made my birthday your safe code."

"It's the only number I never forget."

Silvio crossed the room, grabbed him by the shirt front, and slammed his back against the desk.

He didn't know whether he was going to hit him or kiss him.

He did the second.

It was a bad kiss, all teeth and temper, and Vittorio kissed him back with exactly the same hunger.

Silvio shoved him down to sit on the edge of the desk and stepped between his knees.

"You don't get to touch me and walk off."

"Then stop me."

Silvio's hands were already at Vittorio's belt.

He tore it open, pulled out the thick, hot length of him, and wrapped his hand around it.

Vittorio hissed, and his head tipped back.

"Silvio."

"Quiet."

He stroked him, once, twice, watching the muscles in Vittorio's throat jump.

It felt good to hold something in his fist that he could make shake.

Vittorio's hand came up and closed over his wrist.

"Not like that."
