Chapter 20: Tube One
The first tube was nine years old, and the lubricant had separated into something that looked like cooking oil.
"That's disgusting," Damon said.
"It's vintage."
"It's a biohazard."
Elias dropped it in the bin and opened the second, and the second was fine.
He sat in the leather chair behind the walnut desk with the box in his lap, in a white shirt with the sleeves rolled.
Damon stood in front of him with his hands loose and his heart going.
It was Sunday afternoon, and the house was theirs, and the winter sun came straight down the stair.
"One tube at a time," Elias said. "In order. And I tell you what each year cost."
"You're going to talk."
"I'm going to talk. You're going to take your clothes off."
Damon took off the clothes.
He did it with his eyes on Elias's face, and Elias watched every inch come bare with his lips slightly parted.
"Come here."
Damon climbed into the chair, a knee on either side of those thighs, and Elias's hands settled on his waist.
"Twenty-one," Elias said.
He slicked his fingers and slid a hand between them.
"You told me about the dean's daughter. Four pages, in the cafeteria. I said what happened next."
"I went home and bought the first one because I wanted a reason to get through the night."
One finger, slow and slick.
Damon dropped his forehead onto Elias's shoulder and breathed out.
"Twenty-two."
A second finger.
"I put a man through a table that year. He said you'd sleep with a mailbox if it called you doctor."
