Chapter 18: Cold Moon Court
Garret turned back from the window.
"I need to go get someone," he said. "I found him last night. If I go now, I'll be late to the court. Maybe an hour."
"The somebody in Indiana?"
"Yes."
"You're asking me?"
"I'm asking you."
Perry tucked Garret's shirt back into his belt for him, because Garret's hands couldn't.
"Go," he said. "Be late. Don't be later than that."
Garret kissed his forehead and went out the back door of the pantry into the dark.
The court sat in a clearing in the Palos woods, an hour southwest of the city.
Three hundred wolves stood in rings in the snow under bare oaks, breath steaming.
The Cold Moon sat right over the clearing, white and enormous.
Three elders sat on a fallen oak at the north end, two old men and an old woman, all of them older than Dolores.
Dolores stood beside them with the Moon Book open on a stump.
Rodney stood in the middle of the clearing with the signet ring on his finger.
