Chapter 13: On Her Behalf

Cormick's POV

I did not sleep.

At five I left Eden in the bedroom with the green binder under her pillow.

I went down to the study to make calls.

The first was to my assistant, who picks up before the second ring.

"The Singapore meeting in January," I said. "Who asked for it?"

"I'll look." Keys clicked. "Hadfield and Lowry, sir. The request came in on the ninth of September."

Davis announced the wedding in October.

"Move it," I said. "Or cancel it. I am not on a plane that week."

"Is there a problem?"

"There's a staircase."

"I want to change the order," I said. "No wood rail on the open side. Glass panels, set flush to the treads."

"Glass takes a week to cut, Mr. Eberly."

"Friday noon."

He looked at the drop, then at me.

"That's a rush," he said.

"I'll pay for it."

"Clear glass on a dark stair, you won't see it at all."
