Chapter 9: Out Loud

Devin looked at Cal over my shoulder, and then he looked at me.

"I want you," he said.

His voice cracked on the second word.

"I've wanted you since your mother put your picture on the fridge."

"Good," I said.

Cal had come up behind me.

I could feel him there, big and warm, not touching.

"Your turn," I said, without turning around.

"Kate..."

"You said I'd say no if I was awake. Say what you want, and let me answer."

A breath.

"I want to put you on that table," Cal said, low. "And make up for every minute I made you lie still."

I turned my head and looked at him.

His lip was split and swollen, and his eyes were nervous.

He had never looked less like a man who laughed first.

"Yes," I said.

It was the easiest word I'd ever said.

Cal opened his mouth and nothing came out.

"I said yes. Out loud. Awake."

I took the hem of my T-shirt, pulled it over my head, and dropped it on the floor.

"Your move."

Devin reached me first.

His hands came up to my face, and he kissed me, hard, nothing like the careful kiss on the couch.

I kissed him back with everything I had.

I moaned into his mouth, loud, in the quiet kitchen.

"There she is," Cal said behind me, hoarse.

His mouth settled on my shoulder.

His hands slid around my ribs and cupped my breasts, his thumbs dragging over my nipples.

I gasped against Devin's lips and arched back into Cal.

"Louder," Cal murmured in my ear. "I want to hear everything."

"Then do something," I said.
