Chapter 17: Silk and Cravat

"Lie down," I said.

Percival lay down on his own bed, on his back, in the middle of the dark green coverlet, and looked at me.

He was naked already.

I had undressed him in the first minute, at the door, because I had waited all day.

The lamp burned low on the nightstand.

The window was a black square, and the carriage lamps at the gate were two small gold points in the far snow.

I did not look at them.

I took the white linen cravat off the chair, and the black silk one beside it.

"Hands up," I said.

"Which?"

"Both. Over your head."

He lifted them and laid them against the carved headboard.

His wrists were crossed.

I wound the linen around the left one, twice, and knotted it to the bedpost.

I wound the black silk around the right.

Silk is slippery, and I tied it three times.

"Pull," I said.

He pulled.

The posts creaked, and the knots held, and he swallowed hard.

"You are very good at this," he said.

"I read a lot of books."

"I have been tied up by queens. They were not as thorough."

"Don't talk about queens."

He smiled up at me, helpless and delighted.

I stood at the foot of the bed and took off my cardigan.

I took off my blouse next, button by button, slowly, with his eyes on every inch.

I pushed my skirt down over my hips and stepped out.

I stood there with nothing on at all, and I let him look.

"Tell me what you see," I said.

"A woman who is going to ruin me."

"Good."

I climbed on the bed.

I knelt between his feet and set my hands on his shins.

I ran them slowly up, over his knees, along the long muscles of his thighs.

He shuddered at every inch.

I stopped at the top of his legs and did not touch him.
